FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Are JJ Potts Studio ceramics food-safe?

Yes. Every piece is high-fired stoneware, kiln-fired to over 2,200°F until the clay fully vitrifies, then finished with food-safe glazes that are free of lead and cadmium. Our mugs, bowls, plates, and serveware are made for everyday use at the table.

Can the ceramic mushrooms (Shroomyz) stay outside year-round?

Yes. Our garden pieces are made from the same high-fired, fully vitrified stoneware as our kitchenware, which makes them frost-proof and weather-resistant. They're built to live outdoors through real seasons, including freezing winters.

Are your mugs and dishes dishwasher and microwave safe?

Yes — our stoneware is dishwasher-safe, and microwave-safe for everyday warming. To keep glazed surfaces looking their best over many years, hand-washing is the gentlest option, but regular dishwasher use is fine.

Where is JJ Potts Studio pottery made?

Every piece is wheel-thrown, hand-glazed, and kiln-fired by hand in our Salt Lake City, Utah studio. JJ Potts Studio has been a family-run pottery since 2001.

What makes handmade stoneware different from store-bought ceramics?

Factory ceramics are often fired between 1,800°F and 2,000°F, which can leave them porous and prone to chipping. Our stoneware is fired to over 2,200°F until it fully vitrifies — becoming dense, non-porous, and far more durable. And because every piece is thrown and glazed by hand, no two are exactly alike.

What are RooPottery and Jefferson Street?

They're our two collections under the JJ Potts Studio umbrella. RooPottery is our garden line — ceramic mushrooms, gnomes, and hand-sculpted garden art. Jefferson Street is our kitchen & dining line — dinnerware, serveware, bakeware, and storage.

What is your shipping and return policy?

We offer a 30-day return policy on most items. If a piece arrives damaged in shipping, let us know within 48 hours and we'll send a free replacement. Custom and final-sale items may be excluded. Questions? Email us at hello@jjpottsstudio.com.

Do you sell wholesale or have retail stockists?
